Bishop Burton College launches pioneering Centre for Agricultural Innovation

Rural and allied businesses in the Yorkshire region and beyond are set to benefit from cutting-edge research and a pool of industry expertise which will prepare them for the issues posed by climate change, population growth and increasing government legislation, following the launch of the Bishop Burton Centre for Agricultural Innovation which took place today at the Great Yorkshire Show.
The Centre, which was the brainchild of College principal Jeanette Dawson, has been established to draw together all strands of land-based research currently carried out by staff and students at the College as Mrs Dawson explains:
Rugby Scholarship programme produces first professional contract

The Bishop Burton College rugby scholarship programme, which only started in September 2009, has seen one of its first cohort of players sign professional forms with Hull FC.
Laurence Pearce, who weighs in at over 20 stone and stands at 6'4" tall, has opted to make the switch to rugby league with Hull FC, following a highly successful year with Bishop Burton College, Hull RUFC and the Yorkshire Under 20s.
Curtain falls on the FEI European Pony Championships 2010

As the sun came up on Monday 2nd August, Bishop Burton College's campus was a very different place to the International competition site it has been since the Monday before.
No national anthems, no young people playing horseball (minus the horses) outside York Yard and no crowds of people craning for views around the Championship and International Arenas.
Rugby Union: The All Stars come to Bishop Burton College

As part of Bishop Burton College's week-long European Pony Championships event, the College will host a rugby union match between Hull RUFC, the College's official rugby union partner, and an East Riding All Stars XV.
The match will take place on Friday 30th July, kick off 7.30pm.
Positive approach to Nitrate Vulnerable Zones earns students prestigious Bursary

A group of enterprising agriculture students from Bishop Burton College have earned a sought-after bursary from the Environment Agency after completing a project based on Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs).
The students, who have all just completed a Foundation Degree in Agriculture, were asked by the Environment Agency to speak to farmers living in designated areas about how farms can be managed to comply with legislation.
Bishop Burton College learners help children in India

A group of childcare learners have put together a range of educational materials for underprivileged children in the Rajasthan area of Northern India.
The materials, which included basic literacy and numeracy aids, were given to Platform2 volunteer Andrew Black, who took them with him on a 10-week visit to the village of Chama Ram Ki Dhani, where residents live without basic amenities or education.
Innovative Further Education partnership names its Student of the Year

Rugby hero celebrates the achievements of students at prizegiving ceremony

World cup-winning rugby hero Will Greenwood paid a visit to East Yorkshire on Friday 25th June to join in the celebrations at Bishop Burton College’s annual Further Education Prizegiving Ceremony.
More than 500 learners gathered with their families and friends to mark the end of their courses and to receive their awards and Will was invited to share their special day.
College to welcome rugby hero for prizegiving celebrations

Staff and learners at Bishop Burton are looking forward to welcoming World Cup rugby hero Will Greenwood MBE onto campus when he visits to hand out awards at the College’s annual Further Education Presentation Ceremony, which will be held on Friday 25th June.
Will, who gained an impressive 55 England rugby union caps, started his professional career in 1996 with Leicester, before moving to Harlequins in 2000.
Animal lover Natalie lands dream job

Animal lover Natalie Everett (17) of Brewster Avenue in Immingham has landed a dream job before the end of her college course after writing to surgeries across the area in the hope of finding a position as a trainee veterinary nurse.
Natalie now attends Bishop Burton College one day a week and during the rest of the week works as a trainee veterinary nurse at Vets4Pets in Grimsby.
